Motor does not fit, I do not want to weld my chassis, so I need a Golf engine

got this 1981 monacoblue baby for more than a year now...

Found on internet (leboncoin.fr)

I got it shipped to my place, even with shipping costs it was cheaper than lots of 32b's on the web!
Bild

was completely taken apart, all blue!

oldskool paintings :)

and winter came, a new place to live... no playing with passats for a while

Got a 1Y motor to play with, and built it in the passat, but I did not like it.

bought a 1Z engine from a golf, taking apart and fitting audi parts on it!

And electrics, lots of it

32b oil-pan

Turbo and stuff, the audi had 170t, it's a good turbo!

The 'package'

And some playing around with old water hoses, had to place the oil/water-thing, 32b hoses are hard to find for this...

There goes nothing!
Bild

Point of no return ;)

Exhaust fits nice

Some cutting here for the LLK

Fixing a steering-rod for the audi80 servo

unwrapping the electrics

progress of making the pedal work with the electrical one

some cutting here for the wapu

I got a big watertank, so I am looking for a bracket and oil tank for 32b diesel with SRA. Anyone?
Also made wiring to generator and starter. Got the W-signal!
Bild

Some fixing for the rainy days in Holland...
Bild

Have to make the TD-pipe longer to fit onto the 80TDI pipe
Bild

That's it for now, more to come in the next weeks!

Okay, a question for the guys who like to think a bit!

I am now using the 2N tranny, but it will result in more RPM's than I like...

What to do?

*nothing, get used to it...

*let the 2N tranny get 'tuned'
* *$$$!

install B4 tranny
*it will fit

*axles will not fit (130mm)
* *custom axles ($$$)
* *B4 axles, B4 hub (Will it fit in 32b front suspension??) :-k
* * *4x108 in front?
* * * *Get 4x108 rear 200mm drums?
* * * *Let the B4 hubs get redrilled to 4x100? (if they can fit into 32b front suspension...)

What do you guys think about it?

(And how can I get the shift linkage to work?)

Hi,
use the 2N.
Its a good transmission.
All other is to much work to fit it in a 32b.

but is it good for the engine??

2N -> 3250 rpm = 122 kmph

Golf TDI -> 3250 rpm = 163 kmph

I like to drive around 120~130 on the highway, thats 3250~3500 rpm. Does the TDI like this? I drive 35.000 a year, rides around 110km to work, 90 of them highway.

Hi,
right, the tdi doesent like high rpms over long times.
You can search for 2M or MV transmission.
Its a Quantum transmission with long gears.

I think the 2N is the longest gear box you will (easily and cheaply) find in europe. Try to use a wheel & tyre combination with a larger diameter. You could try 195/60 15 or maye 195/65 15. Depending on the wheel offset, you will have trouble with contact to the wheel arch. It's worth a try, this is cheaper than anything and brings easily 7..10 % longer transmission. I had once tried 195/65 15 with offset of ET 20, what was a bit to heavy :)

Anyway, i like your project
